New NXT ACTIVE Double Basses Arrive

14 March 2017  |  Admin

New from NS Design - and exclusive in the UK at The Acoustic Centre - the NXT ACTIVE range of double basses combines world-class design and flawless craftsmanship with a radical new dual mode electronics that takes the versatility and performance capability of the Czech built NXT Series to another level.

Using the supplied charger, the NXTa circuit connects to any AC outlet for 60 seconds, allowing the capacitor-powered active circuit to run for up to 16 HOURS of performance time! The instrument can then be plugged straight into any low or high impedance device, with no direct box necessary. Since there is no signal loss over the full frequency spectrum of the instrument, the fundamentals of every note remain clear and strong, even with extra-long cables.

The NXTa can also be played in passive mode when using a direct box or an amplifier with a high impedance input.

Best of all, the eco-friendly operation means NXTa instruments are battery-free, eliminating the hassle and cost of batteries while helping protect our environment.

The new NXTa double bass models are available in 4 and 5 string configurations with a choice of Black Satin and Sunburst Flame Maple Finishes.

NXT ACTIVE Violin, Viola Cello and Omni Bass will be available from The Acoustic Centre SOON.

Get The RIGHT amp for your NS Instrument

4 September 2016  |  Admin

We are often asked by customers purchasing their first NS electric instrument about the best amplifier to go with it.

Designed by British audio electronics guru Phil Jones, the CUB AG-100 is a sophisticated acoustic instrument amplifier with a wide frequency response, exceptional hi-fidelty sound, pure, transparent tonal reproduction and diminutive frame and we think its a perfect partner to the NS Design range of violins, violas and cellos.

As Acoustic Guitar World's Michael Ross proclaims...

"for particularly acoustic endeavours, small rooms or as a monitor for lower volume gigs, you're unlikely to find anything that sounds better at ANY price or size"

The Babicz Steven Wilson Signature Guitar

20 February 2016  |  Dave Good

Steven Wilson - Porcupine Tree frontman and successful solo artist - has long been a loyal and enthusiastic supporter of Jeff Babicz guitars, with the revolutionary Identity Series Dreadnought famously being his main acoustic instrument for over a decade.

To celebrate, the "king of prog rock" was invited by the USA's most forward thinking guitar builder to help create a brand new signature instrument.

Based on Steven's preferred cutaway design and engineered to his exacting standards, the result is a striking guitar that combines slick good looks with consummate construction, superior performance and unparalleled versatility, employing the full complement of cutting edge Babicz innovations to maximum effect.

This model is the very same instrument that Steven Wilson currently uses on the current marathon world tour in support of his wildly acclaimed 2015 solo album, the soulful and immersive masterpiece, "Hand. Cannot. Erase."

Brian May & The Veillette Avante Gryphon

1 January 2016  |  Dave Good

The latest musician to be smitten with an Avante is Acoustic Centre regular, Brian May, pictured here with the amazing Gryphon.

Designed by veteran American luthier Joe Veillette, this striking, travel sized, electro-acoustic 12-string plays just like a regular guitar but - tuned to high D - delivers a lush, colourful, mandolin-like sound with a shimmering, naturally chorused top end character.

Describing the instrument as "a joy in itself", Dr. May has been using the Gryphon in the studio for a new project with Kerry Ellis.
